7 Days with Minimum Kit

I am planning to go on a canoeing and camping trip this summer. I might go with a friend of mine who really enjoys fishing. I am not great at fishing, and he doesn't have much kit, so I think this would be a good fit.

He would catch the fish. I'd cook 'em over the fire along with the bannock.

I want to bring minimal kit if possible, to make it both lightweight, but also a memorable trip where we could both learn bushcraft and minimalism lessons in the woods.

  • Flint and steel for fire, cooking
  • Cooking pot, 2 cups, 2 spoons, 2 Nalgene bottles and 2 bowls
  • Knives, axe, saw
  • Wool blankets
  • Tarp shelters
  • Compass
  • Fishing gear
  • Rope & 550 paracord
  • 2 Therm-a-Rests
  • 2 Sleeping Bags
  • Books (Rogers Mushrooms, and fiction)
  • Camera
  • 2 Legless Folding Chairs
  • Food
  • Booze
  • 2 cigars
  • Toiletries
I think that sounds basic enough. I didn't get into the varieties and quantities of booze - that would need further examination... :-)

Cheers,

Mungo

No offense, but I would love to be able to put $5 in a bet against your going this summer. Although I would like you to have your getaway.

My assumption is based on a simple equation: New Mother = the world changes.

wood blankets are flammable... use them carefully!

DanT - You're on! $5 it is!... Let me see if I have change somewhere on my desk.

Px - the whole point is that they ARE flammable. You wrap yourself in them, then hold a match to one corner. Over the evening, the whole piece smoulders and keeps you warm. Right?

Mungo, like I said, I hope to lose the $5!

Between your posts and the comments my whole life flashed before my eyes.

I have loads of fishing kit
I'm terrible at fishing
I have kids
I hardly ever get to go camping
I lose a lot of bets

How about a couple of bottles of fine Brandy for that evening toast? Also, strap a .22 pistol to your belt for sure! Then your kit is complete! Hope yopu get to go. Jack

Sounds like a plan for sure, you will have to keep us posted.

Sounds like a good plan. A bit minimalist for me, but you have booze, so roughing it might cease to matter after a while.
